Taking time out to reflect upon a very important week in our country’s history – National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week (27 May to 3 June) is a very special time for all Australians to reflect upon or learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can positively contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. National Reconciliation Week commemorates two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision.

Across all our homes, residents and staff gathered to reflect upon National Reconciliation over a morning or afternoon tea followed by culturally relevant activities for all to enjoy. For example, in our CraigCare Mornington home activities were kicked off with learning the origins and practicing traditional dot art followed by traditional damper made my our Chef served with traditional Australian tea and jams. This was then followed by a very touching and unique opportunity – Q&A session with three of our residents (Alex, Lyn and Tina) who have all worked with ATSI communities. The wonderful stories they shared should be published in a book! Thanks for sharing!
